The city of Omaha is looking to add another sister city, this one, the Italian city of Carlentini. Three Italian heritage organizations in Omaha helped lay the groundwork for the friendship agreement. Carlentini’s first immigrants arrived in Omaha in the early 1900s. The population of Carlentini led to the development of the Little Italy district of Omaha with family restaurants, shops, and food markets. “To say that there is enormous enthusiasm for this city of friendship within the Italian-American community of Omaha would be an understatement,” said OSCA committee chair Carlentini Celann Lagreca. A virtual friendship agreement signing ceremony will be held at the Durham Museum on September 22. This is the first step towards a formal twin city agreement.
