“In Italy, but also at a broader level of the ‘Italian matrix’, the innovation market is beginning to have a scale and balance sheet unimaginable ten years ago, when we, as P101, were among the first venture capital funds in Italy. What strikes me is the increasingly cross-border dimension to which the Italian innovation system is approaching. I believe that the previously limited size of funds available has been one of the key elements of this situation, as Italian entrepreneurs have been able to create and develop companies which, thanks to precise economics and sound business models, are now appreciated by international investors. Moreover, this system also translates into attentive investors who can accompany and guide the growth of companies, as well as support them economically” declared Andrea DiCamillofounder and managing partner of P101 sgr.
Finally, if we consider the years 2016-2021, 40 scale-ups achieved the highest fundraising: 3.7 of the total amount of €5.1 billion that were raised by all the startups and scaleups mapped. Of these 40, 16 were founded by Italians abroad and raised 2.4 million euros. In 2021, there were 35 Italian VC investments in foreign startups and scale-ups and 15 secondary investments in foreign companies (details here).
