New mural in the city center in progress | News, Sports, Jobs
Bright new colors are coming to downtown Marshalltown. A new mural is being painted on the catwalk and main entrance to McGregor’s Mattress & Furniture.
The mural will offer customers a step back in time with important moments in McGregors’ history. From the very beginning, to expansion to multiple locations and more.
The chosen painter is Minnesota artist Jordyn Brennan – muralist, teacher, oil painter, and pursuing his Masters of Fine Arts at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. She will finish the mural in time for July 4th.
“My greatest joy in the process of making the mural is to see the community come together and get excited about the project” Brennan said. “More than anything, I love being able to put my brush aside and talk with members of the community. Hearing their stories and personal connection to the city inspires me every day and that’s why I keep doing what I do.
While Brennan is painting, McGregor’s customers can enter the store using the back entrance until Thursday.
McGregor sustained significant damage from the Marshalltown Tornado in 2018 and returned to his newly renovated building in 2020. The mural incorporates the history of not only McGregor, but also Marshalltown and Iowa, while celebrating and paying homage to the revitalization of downtown Marshalltown.
“We are proud to support the local artistic community”, said Erin McGregor, owner of McGregor. “We are very fortunate that Jordyn painted our main entrance to showcase our history and celebrate the arts in Marshalltown. Come see the finished product on July 4th.

“We couldn’t be more excited to continue painting Marshalltown”, Amber Danielson, executive director of the Alliance, said. “We are very grateful for the support of our local businesses and building owners who share our vision and understand the vital role the arts play in economic development, tourism and community pride. This is one of the many exciting wall projects that we have in the works, stay tuned.
