Lil Nas X says Frank Ocean and Kevin Abstract helped him open up about his sexuality
Lil Nas X has revealed in a new interview that artists like Frank Ocean and Kevin Abstract have positively influenced who he is as an artist.
Speaking to Abstract in an interview for V MAN, Lil Nas X shared that without these artists it would have been “a lot scarier”.
Abstract asked Nas, “Did you feel like there weren’t any artists like Frank?” [Ocean] who came before you, would you still have had the courage to be as open as you are about who you are?
Nas replied: “I have a feeling that without Frank and people like you, it sure would have been a lot scarier.”
“I feel like for everyone, no matter who the artist is, there is always someone who somehow made them feel a little more comfortable doing something. thing and to be themselves… you know? This is what you did for me.
Nas added that they were especially important to him as he was not always comfortable with who he was.
“Honestly, you did it for me, at a time when I wasn’t completely comfortable with who I was,” he said.

Nas also added that these days he definitely considered himself more of a pop star than a rapper, but that wasn’t always the case – as he realized in hindsight.
He said, “I’m definitely a lot more of a pop star now than a rapper. If you had asked me that two years ago, I would have said rapper.
“I feel like I’m much less concerned with anyone’s thoughts and opinions about what I decide to do. The only opinion that matters is mine, especially when it comes to what I create.
