Italian Open semi-finals LIVE: Ons Jabeur enters second consecutive WTA 1000 final and defeats Kasatkina in three sets

Last week’s Madrid champion Jabeur fired a game-winning forehand down the sidelines to clear Kasatkina’s match point at 5-4 in the third set. Jabeur would go on to extend his career-best run to 11 straight wins with the triumph clocking in at 1 hour and 55 minutes.

After dropping their first two encounters, Jabeur has since won four in a row against Kasatkina, including their two clay-court clashes which both came this season. Jabeur dominated Kasatkina in straight sets on indoor clay in Stuttgart last month.

The victory continues a brilliant season for Jabeur on clay. She has won 17 matches on clay this season, leading the tour. Jabeur is also the first player to reach three clay-court finals on tour in a single season since Simona Halep in 2017.

At 4-4 in the opener, Jabeur slammed a forehand winner to earn a crucial break and serve for the set. Jabeur was forced to save two break points in that match, but she held on, taking the lead in a set.

In the second set, Kasatkina broke Jabeur twice by equalizing the clash. In the third set, Jabeur beat Kasatkina for 4-2 with a forehand winner at the end of a long rally. However, Kasatkina again surged to serve for the game at 5-4. Kasatkina looked set to win the contest as she was about to match. However, Jabeur hit a forehand winner to save match point and then earned another point to break Kasatkina 5-5. Jabeur went on to win the last three games, completing his comeback with one final shot winner.
