Carnegie asks young people to create “My California”
The Carnegie Arts Center in Turlock is looking for artwork from young people to help promote its 11th season of exhibitions in September, with shows that celebrate California in some way.
The annual Yosemite Renaissance exhibit runs from August 9 through October 9. 1; Stitching California: Fiber Artists Interpret the State’s People, Life, and Land runs September 13 through December 30; and California Dreaming, a juried exhibition, will be open from October 7 to January 21.
To help kick off a new year full of fun and creativity, the CAC is looking for artwork created by young people ages 4-18 on the theme of “My California” – highlighting something they love. in the Golden State.
“Because Turlock is truly the heart of our state, we thought an art exhibit in our downtown would be a great way to show off what makes California special. The response to our banner contest last year was so great that we decided to open this fun opportunity again,” said ACE Director Lisa McDermott.
A committee will select at least 10 winners whose artwork will be printed on at least two street banners that will be displayed on lamp posts throughout downtown Turlock this fall. Artwork will be judged for creativity, response to theme, and technique or skill (relative to age). The banner contest is sponsored by Robic Refrigeration and Turlock Downtown Property
“Your designs can be realistic or abstract, and done with any drawing or painting medium. Just make sure it reminds us of California and is bold enough to grab the attention of people who walk around and drive around downtown,” McDermott said.
Illustrations should be in a vertical format on 14 x 8 ½” (legal size) paper. The CCA will provide paper for any young artist who needs the right size.
Artists must deliver their original artwork along with a completed entry form to the CAC at 250 N. Broadway in Turlock. Download an entry form from the website (carnegieartsturlock.org) or pick one up in person at the CAC. Entries will be accepted until September 3. The Carnegie is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
“All original entries for the banner contest will be retained and included in the annual Ready, Set, Show! Youth Art Exhibition in June 2023. We want to share with everyone all the creative ideas our committee has been able to see,” McDermott said.
